National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) is an annual observance that celebrates the compassionate care provided by skilled nursing care centers across the country. This year’s NSNCW theme, “Cultivating Kindness,” is inspired by the many acts of kindness occurring in these centers daily. From small gestures to more significant acts of generosity, kindness is at the heart of the care skilled nursing center staff provides.

Research has shown that practicing kindness and compassion can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health, as well as strengthen human connections and bonds. During this special week, which begins on Mother’s Day, May 14th, and runs through May 20th, 2023, staff, residents, families, and members of the local community are encouraged to come together to participate in activities that cultivate and spread kindness.

Get Involved with National Skilled Nursing Care Week

There are many ways to get involved and participate in National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) and help cultivate kindness. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Visit a local skilled nursing care center and volunteer your time. You can offer to read to residents, help with activities, or simply spend time talking with them and providing companionship.
  2. Send cards or letters of appreciation to the staff and residents of a local skilled nursing care center. This small gesture can go a long way in brightening someone’s day and spreading kindness.
  3. Organize a donation drive for the center. Consider collecting items such as books, puzzles, games, or art supplies for residents to enjoy. You could also collect toiletries or other personal care items for the staff.
  4. Spread the word about NSNCW on social media. Share posts and updates about the week and encourage others to get involved and participate in cultivating kindness.
