National Volunteer Week is April 18-24, 2021. We wanted to take a moment to show our appreciation for our hospice volunteers, who are so integral in the quality of care we are able to provide.

Hospice volunteers keep patients company and offer companionship when friends and family members can’t be there; they also help with administrative work and so much more. Volunteers allow hospice care organizations to provide a high level of care to their patients by helping with:

Care Tasks

  • Companionship for patients
  • Grocery shopping
  • Meal prep
  • Taking the patient to appointments
  • Helping the patient’s caregiver with their errands and chores
  • Letting the hospice team know about the patient’s needs and any changes in their behavior or health they may notice
  • Playing music to soothe and entertain patients
  • Bringing pets to cuddle, play, and comfort patients

Administrative Tasks

  • Preparing mailings, brochures, and leaflets
  • Answering the facility’s phones
  • Helping with fundraising campaigns and efforts
  • Setting up booths at community events
  • Helping with data entry and clerical duties

Hospice volunteers are extremely compassionate people who generously give their time to patients who are at the ends of their lives. They also help hospice facilities run smoothly by helping with administrative tasks. No matter the role, our facility could not thrive without our volunteers.
